A one dollar obsolete civil war currency issued by the County of Rockbridge from Lexington VA on February 2, 1863 for sale by Brandywine General Store. The county of Rockbridge issued 10,000.00 worth of notes to be used for the relief of civil war soldier's families, who received a weekly allowance of $1.25 to the wife, .75 cents for each girl over the age of 12 and 50 cents for each child under the age of 12. This obsolete currency was printed on brown or white paper. In the Virginia obsolete money reference book these Lexington notes are rated on the rarity scale at R-3, meaning it was thought 50 to 99 still exist.
