An archival premium Quality Art Print of Scenes from the Lives of our Desert Fathers by Fra Angelico for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this paintings around the year 1420, one of the older pictures extant. The original panel is now located at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest. The setting of this scene is fable like with a rocky wilderness scattered wtih trees with lions appearing in several places. It shows various scenes of every day life of the hermits who have retired to the Theban and Nitrain deserts in Egypt. Some are being carried around on litters or pulled in hand carts. Some are riding deer and donkeys while others work in gardens. Some of the fathers have gone into seclusion in the scattered caves, with food and water being raised up to them by rope. It is thought this Thiebald panel might have once been used as wainscoating or part of a piece of furniture in a communal room. Thiebald refers to a region of ancient Egypt and acquired its name from its close priority to Thebes. Please keep in mind this painting is almost 600 years old and shows considerable wear which can not all be removed without ruining the artist's work. Old masters art print #54
