Funeral Procession is one among many of religious rituals that the artist painted from her memory of life on the plantation. This busy scene is painted with bright colors highlighting the hats, flowers and clothing. The scene, as is common in many of Hunter's paintings, portrays a simple story of a funeral procession leading from a Church down a hill to the cemetery or grave-site.
