Poe, Edgar Allen - Art Print from a Photograph
An archival premium Quality Art Print of Edgar Allen Poe from a Matthew Brady Photograph for sale by Brandywine General Store. Brady took this photograph around 1860, which of course was after the poet was already dead, so I am assuming that Matthew Brady made this print over an original daguerreotype of Poe. He then probably sold copies in his shop. Edgar Allen Poe was born January 19, 1809 in Boston Massachusetts, the son of actors. He never knew his parents, his father ran away from the family and the mother died of consumption when Poe was around 2 years old. Poe was the master of the Macabre and also known as the Father of the American Detective Story with his writing of Murders in the Rue Morgue. The Raven is among the best known poems of American Literature. Even though with all of Poe's writing talent, he never made money and was poor all his life. Poe's death was about as macabre as his stories. He disappeared for about a week and was found wandering the streets of Baltimore in a delirium, he also had on someone else's clothing. He was hospitalized and died two days later. All of his medical records from this episode have been lost, so now we can only speculate as to what actually happened to him during the period.
