Pollard James - Epsom Races Preparing to Start art print
An archival premium Quality art Print of the Epsom Races Preparing to Start by James Pollard for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on canvas in the year 1835. The size of the original artwork is 12 by 19 inches and now hangs in the Yale Center for British Art being bequested to this institution by Paul Mellon in 2001. The artist singed and dated in brown paint in the lower right J. Pollard 1835. This race course is between Epsom, Tadworth and Langley Vale. This is a public area so people can watch the races here for free, consequently these used to be the most watched races in England. The first recorded race was held here in 1661, even though racing was going on before this time because there is a record from the local burial list of 1625 that refers to "William Stanley who in running the race fell from his horse and broke his neck". Charles II was a racegoer at this historic track. Famous artists print #188
