Weyden Rogier van der - Virgin and Child Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of Virgin and Child by Rogier van der Weyden for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on wood painting sometime after the year 1454. The size of the original artwork is 13 by 9 inches and now hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas in the Edith and Percy Straus Collection. The artist exquisitely tender representation of the embracing Virgin and Child demonstrates his superlative drawing skills, his feel for design and his unrivaled handling of oil paints. This painting became a highly popular model for private devotional works, as numerous miracles were attributed to it. Weyden has the Christ Child turning toward Mary and pressing His Cheek to hers is loosely based on a 14th century Italian portrayal of the Virgin and Child, itself a replica of an earlier Italian icon in the Byzantine style.
