Richmond VA Two Dollar 1861 Counterfeit obsolete note
A two dollar counterfeit note for the Corporation of Richmond issued April 19, 1861 for sale by Brandywine General Store. An oval portrait of Governor Letcher is at the top center and the bill is covered in a pink tint. Probably created by Upham, a lot of these had Facsimilie Rebel Shinplaster printed along the side or bottom, but this one has none of the printing. Even though counterfeit, a lot of these early fake notes are still collectible, a few more so than the originals if produced during the Civil War.
