Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West Art Print
A Museum Quality Art Print of the Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West, Florida for sale by Brandywine General Store. This Island Sanctuary became the home of the Hemingway Family in 1931. Ernest Hemingway, nicknamed Papa, was a very successful author writing novels such as Farewell to Arms, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, The Fifth Column, To Have and Have Not, For Whom the Bells Toll, Old Man and the Sea, Garden of Eden and many others. In addition to writing novels he also produced many poems and short stories. Most of the Hemingway furnishings are still in this house. Many Polydactyls cats with the extra toes still roam the grounds. The original polydactyls cat was named Snowball and was presented to Hemingway by a Sea Captain after the author took a liking to this cat. Most of the cats still on the grounds are descendants of this tom cat and still carry the gene for the extra toes. The architectural aspects of this house fit in perfectly with the island life of Key West. Hemingway enjoyed living here and used many of the island people that he met and hung around with as subjects for his novels. The home is framed beautifully by the palm trees in the front which hang down from overhead and other greenery and blooming flowers all along the side of the structure. This beautiful island home was originally built by Asa Tift in 1851 who was a marine architect and salvage wrecker. Picture #261
